Twas the Autism Christmas

Twas the month of Christmas. Holiday cheer was in the air.
At our house anxiety was in the air
The routine was off, instead of work Christmas crafts were being made.
Rehearsals for the Christmas program were more and more.
Who is this guy in the red suite? How does he come in? We don't have a chimney.
A tree, lights and shiny decorations that weren't there before have appeared.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
I am thankful for my family, Faces of Hope, Mrs. Byrd (my son's aid) she puts up with a lot, that I didn't have to cook the turkey (I will never cook a turkey nor have I ever tried). Thankful for my brother and his wife. that kids got along with Izzy (their dog) and the so many more blessing Our heavenly Father has blessed us with.

Two Funny Little Words

I took my children to pick a few groceries. As we couldn't get a free cookie,. I bought cookies. Two sack of groceries. My son who likes the confinement of the basket crawled into one. I had parked on a small incline. The whole lot is on an incline. I parked the basket next to the van to brace it. While, putting the few groceries in the van. My son was throwing a tantrum because he couldn't climb out of the basket. Next, I here "Otto." I look there is my son rolling down the incline in the basket. Then, I hear Wee. I had to run and catch him basket and all.

The Flip Side of Autism

I had a nice at work enjoying the fall weather. I had planned a nice relaxing evening. A dinner of frozed pizzas. Well, things don't always go as you plan. Usually, God has a different plan for us. I went to get the pizzas out of the freezer. The pizzas were soggy. Only to discover that Josh had turned off the freezer. I was pretty upset over this.

However, I decided I could continue to be upset or salvage what I could. Thankfully, I was able to salvage most of it. Most everything was still cold. I decided to do a lot of cooking. So, now I have main dishes for the week. Already precooked. I had always wanted to try cooking a weeks to months meals in a day. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Now, we are laughing about it.

Sorry I have been to busy to update.We moved from a house to an apartment. Which, we like much better. The kids have adjusted well. There new school is awesome and both are doing well.Joshua has gotten 12 green cards in a row which is a record for him. He sees Haily a certified therapy dog. He likes to read to her. He knows abou 10 different languages and is working on being fluent in those languages and finding new ones to learn. Amethyst is in search and all A's still. She has a friend here at the complex whose in her class at school and in her scout troop. My volounteer job is wonderful.

Other Disabilities that affect my life

As you all know, my life is about autism. My son has autism, ADHD, OCD. I also suffer from learning disability, anxiety, panic attacks, and mood depressive disorder. I was diagnosed with MDD in April. Stress palys a vital role in anxiety and depression. Having a son with special needs and another wonderful child that is gifted. Puts a lot of stress in my life. Caffeine makes it worse. When, your so tired as I am you want the caffeine to help you stay awake.

While, the first medicine we tried for my son didn't work. Now, we have to wait two to three weeks to see if the new medicine helps Joshua.

Traveling Down the Road of Autism

You just never know what to expect. We finally got to see a neurologist after waiting two years. Of course it was after his school year was over. Now, my son has a book for a diagnosis. He has adhd, pdd-nos, behavior conduct disorder nos, and OCD.

We are trying a stimulant to help calm the adhd symptoms. The first two days was really rough. Yesterday, was pretty good.

What's the best compliment you've received lately?

From my daughter. "You were the best girl scout leader. I am sorry you don't want to be a leader." I love her dearly. It just made my day because of the difficulties I had being a leader. I did it for her and her only. So, though the troop fell apart. It was successful.

Its been rough

I haven't been on vox much. We had to move suddenly from a house to an apartment. Then, Gracie has camp this week which has thrown Joshua into nightmare status. He can't stand being away from big sister. We are still waiting for help since his diagnosis in Nov of 2007. He has speech and social skills at FOH. He is driving me nuts. I am looking foward and dreading the year round calander. I am frustrated at myself for not being able to help my son.
